Suffocation "Pinnacle Of Bedlam"
Wow!! this album really Rocks!!! I was never a really a big fan of Death Metal until quite recently that I started picking up these fine platters.
What we find here is some fine Technical Death Metal filled with gruff growls, aggressive riffing, extremely well executed fast guitar solos and thundering blast beats that will make your flatmates wish you never moved in.
I can honestly say that i am blown away by its magnificence, brutality and technicality. Every song is executed flawlessly.
The only complaint that I have is that at times it falls into the repetitive territory but i guess that's one of the characteristics of the genre.
Songs like "Sullen Days" kept me engaged with its acoustic guitar intro which serves to give the album some variety.
The album is filled with great guitar solos too. My fav solos would be on "Cycles Suffering", "As Grace Descends" and "My demise".
I read some reviews of people that complain this album doesn't sound like the Suffocation they love and cherish because of the more refined vocals and overall sound. That made me then go and listen to chunks of their previous six albums, only to find out that Suffocation sounded like this from day one (at least to my ears) with the obvious lack of proper production that is common on establishing bands with lower budget.
I find myself liking this refined production more than the raw sound of their early catalog, as Death Metal is already a quite raw genre.
The next Suffocation album I will invest some money and time will be "Blood Oath" which I had the change to listen some snippets of on I tunes.
All in all i must this album was a powerful key to unlock trunk filled with dark gems called "Death Metal".
9/10
